Thomas Western @Restoran Ong Lay, Taman Overseas Union

Finally I got the chance to visit Thomas Western after being craving for months. After reading the inline reviews about this western food stall and being recommended by Daryl and his family more than half a year ago, I have finally visited them last month.Since then, I have been visiting them so often that Uncle Thomas and his workers recognize me and my mum.

Who says western food can only be eaten at lavish, fine dining restaurants with full formal service with waiters serving you bread and butter? Who says that delicious food is expensive? Who says there are no reasonably priced western food in KL?

At Thomas Western, you get good food at reasonable price. How reasonable you say? Continue reading and you will find out. Thomas Western goes against the norm by serving extraordinary western food at a neighborhood coffee shop in Overseas Union Garden. Previously working as a chef in a 5-star hotel, there is no doubt about the quality of food served at Thomas Western.

Our favorite dishes at Thomas Western would be Chicken Chop, Pork Chop, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Lamb Chop and Fish & Chips.

Chicken Cordon Bleu [RM13.00]

Lamb Chop with  Mushroom Sauce [RM14.00]

French Fries [RM5.00]

Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce [RM10.00]

New Zealand Steak with Mushroom Sauce [RM20.00]

Fish and Chips [RM11.00]
*The prices may vary due to the recent increase of price.

One of the best thing about the dish is the baked potato with the potato mushroom sauce. The best potato sauce I have ever tasted. Since then, I have been a regular customer there. Thomas Western is located at Restoran Ong Lay, near the Thursday night market area in Overseas Union Garden.

Comments : The potato is a must-try. They only make 100 pieces per day so act fast if you want to give it a try. Every dish is extremely good. =D

Kanpai Japanese BBQ & Bar @Taman Connaught, Cheras

After my exam on Monday, Daryl suggested to visit the recently opened Japanese restaurant in our area, Kanpai Japanese BBQ & Bar. They were still having the opening promotion even though it has been opening for about a month. It is their second outlet after their first one in Sri Petaling which had quite a good response from the customers.

The restaurant ambiance is a casual Izakaya setting. It is a type of drinking establishment in Japan which also serves food to complement the drinks. It is a casual place for after-work drinking which is quite common in Japan. Kanpai serves not only Yakiniku (which means grilled meat dishes) and yakitori (skewered chicken), they also serve bento, curry rice, udon, ramen and nabe.

Kyushu Ramen Pork Belly [RM15.80]
Tonkotsu (pork bone soup) ramen with Yakiniku Pork Belly
The price is quite pricey compared to Ton Chan, our all-time favorite Japanese Restaurant. However, they were very generous with the sesame and the yakiniku pork belly gave a slightly different texture to the ramen. The texture of the tamago was good.

Pork Cutlet Curry Rice a.k.a. Tonkatsu Curry Rice [RM13.90]
Breaded, deep fried pork cutlet with curry rice
This dish is pretty worth it as you can see, the generous amount of pork cutlet. Not forgetting the texture of the pork was very crunchy and crispy just as it should be.

Comments : The price for certain food is quite high. However, if you are a pork lover who likes deep fried pork, you should give the Pork Cutlet Curry Rice a try. However, the service here is disappointing. We had to wait for a few minutes before being led to the table when there were only 2 table of customers at that time. Thus, it is below expectation.
